Wow! I am ever so grateful my birthday Princess had her big celebration already! With her feverish, unsettled little body lying on me, & me utilizing the time to work on the laptop until 3 a.m., ’cause I’m crazy like that, I finally got the furnace tucked in to her own spot & was just closing my eyes to sleep hard & fast before the alarm at 7:20 a.m. Not surprisingly, that’s just about when she woke up crying & was back on top of me, pinching my ear, watching my TV, whiny, thirsty, hot & uncomfortable. Until 5 a.m. Again not surprisingly, the bottle of Children’s Motrin in my cabinet will sit there for 2 years untouched, but just last week The One I Butt Heads
With had had an ear infection, & went through what little was left. Just about the time The Baby finally drifted off again, The Dad got up…& between the shower, the hair dryer, the electric razor, for the love of GOD shut up in there, I’ve never seen you stay up all night with a sick child, it was after 6 a.m. before I finally drifted in to oblivion. And slept REALLY fast, with the alarm for school going off an hour later. Funny how familiar it all was…here it was her birthday, the 4th anniversary of my going about 48 hours without sleep as I laboured long & hard with a child that should have just fallen out while I was doing the dishes or folding laundry, given that she had been my 4th little rug rat! Thanks for the memories brat! But with the school kids out the door, I’m lucky enough to hit the hay for a couple more hours until the birthday girl wakes up.

Moments To Treasure…
However, she was definitely not up to much today, birthday or not. And for some reason, neither was I!! So we hung in bed together, I in my jammies, she in her birthday suit…appropriate for once, & given the fever, actually kinda practical….& we read some Tinkerbell, watched Canada bring home another gold in Women’s Ski Cross (as I wondered how long it would take for the world media to now bitch & moan about it being TOO SNOWY in Vancouver), & we had much fun playing some of her computer games on the laptop. Sadly though, my plans to take her & her BFF out for an afternoon of celebrating had to be cancelled. And by 5 p.m., we were both done, barely able to keep our eyes open, her fever getting the best of her. I had wrapped gifts & gotten through homework already, so I sent The Dad off to the cheer gym & to pick up the birthday dinner while The Baby & I went for a nap. By 7:30 the whole fan-damily was camped out in bed with her, eating
dinner & opening gifts. Though I managed to convince her to don a nightie for a few pictures of the “festivities”, I couldn’t get her to eat much, nor was she at all interested in cake & candles….yep, definitely sick! The big kids were not very pleased about this, but here in Crazy Town, the birthday person makes all the decisions, so the cake & candles will wait for The Baby! Instead, after she had opened her gifts & the camera was gone, she was once again buck naked, & playing in bed with her new toys. By 9:30, she was done, & her birthday came to a quiet close as she fell in to another restless sleep.

Little Blessings…
Frankly, it seems par for the frikkin’ course this week…my Monday that just wouldn’t end included The Dad finding out the big job we were praying for to get our lives back on track was not to be, as well as my son & I finding a HUGE lump in the neck of our very beloved family pet, our 7 year old Himalayan cat. And as my son worries about losing him, I have the added worry of very tough financial decisions that come with a sick pet. Is it really only Tuesday??!! But still, despite the crap surrounding me, along with my melancholy feelings about my last baby reaching that milestone between toddler/preschooler & kidhood, today WAS a day to treasure…those fleeting moments of loving, bonding time, just the 2 of us, when I’m still the centre of her universe, for just a little while longer, & for the very last time as a mother. Because nothing will ever take away from, or replace, the precious gift I have in my children & the years they spent attached to me, the purpose they bring to my life each & every day…no matter how big they get. So as I celebrate the gift of my littlest child, the rest of the world fades away with the twinkle in her eyes, the joy in her smile, the delight in
her giggle, or just her tiny hand in mine…even her stinky feet in my face & her chubby baby fingers painfully pinching at my ear….I will miss these things….& I wish her every happiness in the years ahead, with or without me by her side!
Signed,
The Mayor!

I have to comment “a kitty cat!” because my kids keep saying it over and over again, but other than that, I have to say Happy Birthday Princess.
Cute baby. Hope she feels better soon. You have as many tags for one post as I have for my whole blog. I gotta get with the tags

Thanks!! She is pretty stinkin cute, if I do say so myself…it’s my downfall LOL!! She is better, but still just lounging today, & was out by 7p.m., which I’m betting means another late night for me with her now when she wakes up around midnight for a few hours!! :-p
As for the tags, I’m just starting to get on that myself….it’s hard enough to find time to write, never mind all the technical crap to go with it LOL!!
