Wordless Wednesday: The Internet Edition!

Yes, I grasp the concept of “wordless”…bite me, you know I don’t play by the rules! This story was simply too bizarre not to share it, but if you’d rather skip right to my usual Wordless Wednesday picks, be my guest. I’m used to strange & unusal things happening to me. They typically fall under the, “I can’t MAKE this sh** up!” umbrella of seriously bad luck, causing us to have earned the Griswold family moniker. This incident, however, speaks to a larger purpose, the universe working in mysterious ways, that kind of thing, that I don’t usually put much stock in. If you read my last post, I spoke very passionately of a new comer to the scene, someone who I urged all of you to embrace & support, given that she is currently living in Saudi Arabia & feeling very alone & far from home. I also mentioned that she had just returned to Canada to spend 10 weeks with her sister. So there I was today, at the beach with my kidlets, my mother, my niece, & a close friend’s son. My mother begins talking about said son’s birthday party, held Sunday. My eyes are in 10 different directions, counting 6 heads running in & out of the water, & I was only half listening. She begins to tell me about this woman she had met, who was visiting from Iraq or Iran, but originally from here, & the stories this woman had shared about how difficult life was there. My mother then tells me she has just flown in to spend 10 weeks with her sister…WAIT, WHAT???!!! NOW I’m listening!! I turn to my mother & ask, “Could she have said Saudi Arabia??”, to which my mother responds, “YES, THAT was it!!”. I ask, does she have 2 small kids?? My mother says yes! I ask if she is there for her husband’s job…my mother is now looking at ME rather oddly, & I explain…but I’m barely able to wrap my head around the possibility…yet, by the same token, there just isn’t a chance in HELL that this WASN’T Lost In Mommyland. The more we compared notes, the more convinced I was. Upon returning home, my sister, who had also met her, popped over to her blog, & was able to confirm it from various information found there…including the fact that she had just celebrated HER birthday as well! So, as I write this, Lost In Mommyland is as yet unaware of this wildly bizarre happenstance…I have left her a comment explaining it. And yes, she is staying just doors away from our close friends in the same neighbourhood I grew up in, that my mother & sister still live in. Odder still, I think I may have known her “back in the day”…certainly her name is very familiar to me, & she knows people I knew way back when. It really is a small world after all…& I still haven’t wrapped my head around THIS one! Talk about world’s colliding…in the infinity of the internet, & the vastness that is Canada, that this one woman came from Saudi Arabia & landed in my backyard, a mere week after having met online…there’s a reason for this, I just know it!! And in honour of this crazy wild situation, I am going with an internet theme for today’s Wordless Wednesday…what a strange & wonderful place it is!
